Other activities include the Natural Bridge Wax Museum, Toy Museum, Boxerwood Gardens, and Virginia Horse Center.

2. Colonial Williamsburg

Colonial Williamsburg is a history-lover’s destination. Visitors can “travel in time” and meet historical characters and learn about the colonial way of life, take a carriage ride, or take a guided tour. Outside of the Colonial Williamsburg area, tourists can visit art museums, play at adventure parks, or shop at the Williamsburg Outlets.

3. Charlottesville

Charlottesville, Virginia, is a great day trip for wine and history lovers. The city is home to more than 30 vineyards and breweries. Visitors may enjoy checking out the Monticello Wine Trail. Charlottesville is also a historic destination, offering Thomas Jefferson’s Monticello and James Monroe’s Highland. In autumn, Charlottesville visitors can pick apples at local orchards.

4. Smith Mountain Lake

Smith Mountain Lake, in the Roanoke Region of Virginia, is a man-made lake. Aside from going to the lake, area visitors might enjoy the Smith Mountain Lake State Park for hiking and fishing.
